{"id":1466,"date":"2017-08-03T11:53:11","date_gmt":"2017-08-03T15:53:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.davideriknelson.com\/sbsb\/?p=1466"},"modified":"2017-08-03T11:54:16","modified_gmt":"2017-08-03T15:54:16","slug":"call-yr-house-rep-to-cosponsor-these-bills-that-will-help-wrangle-our-cantankerous-potus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.davideriknelson.com\/sbsb\/index.php\/2017\/08\/call-yr-house-rep-to-cosponsor-these-bills-that-will-help-wrangle-our-cantankerous-potus\/","title":{"rendered":"Call on yr house rep to cosponsor these bills and help wrangle our cantankerous President&#x1f1fa;&#x1f1f8;&#x1f4de;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The good news is that there are plenty of signs that there is finally some<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>bipartisan appetite to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/news\/powerpost\/paloma\/daily-202\/2017\/08\/03\/daily-202-trump-stumbles-are-undercutting-executive-power-which-may-be-healthy-for-america-long-term\/5982599430fb045fdaef10e2\/?hpid=hp_hp-top-table-main_daily202-730a-1%3Ahomepage%2Fstory&amp;utm_term=.d397b37782a9\">roll back the unhealthy post-9\/11 ballooning of Executive power in the federal government<\/a> (a less noted, but more significant, example is explained <a href=\"https:\/\/foreignpolicy.com\/2017\/06\/29\/surprise-house-vote-rolls-back-authority-for-the-war-on-terror\/\">here<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2017\/07\/01\/politics\/congress-trump-war-power\/index.html\">here<\/a>).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Bravo!<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">But our specific current PotUS needs some specific, itemized reigning in.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Here are two legislative items (the first a House Resolution, the second an actual bill) that aim to do just that.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Both could use more cosponsors\u2014and could likely get them from either side of the aisle right now.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/115th-congress\/house-resolution\/456\/cosponsors?q=%7B%22search%22%3A%5B%22Whereas%2C+on+January+20%2C+2017%2C+Donald+J.+Trump+swore%22%5D%7D&amp;r=2\">H.Res.456<\/a> &#8211; <i>Objecting to the conduct of the President of the United States<\/i> (the name kinda says it all on this one)<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/115th-congress\/house-bill\/3228\/text?q=%7B%22search%22%3A%5B%22Free+Press+Act+of+2017%22%5D%7D&amp;r=1\">H.R.3228<\/a> &#8211; <i>Free Press Act of 2017<\/i>: &#8220;To require the President to provide frequent press briefings covering the official business of the President to the White House press corps.&#8221;<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\">In light of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/trump-dictated-sons-misleading-statement-on-meeting-with-russian-lawyer\/2017\/07\/31\/04c94f96-73ae-11e7-8f39-eeb7d3a2d304_story.html\"><span class=\"s2\">President allegedly drafting his son&#8217;s fake excuses for meeting privately with foreign agents<\/span><\/a> to coordinate with smearing a political opponent and, prior to that, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/news\/politics\/wp\/2017\/08\/01\/a-timeline-of-the-explosive-lawsuit-alleging-a-white-house-link-in-the-seth-rich-conspiracy\/?utm_term=.f9013a415231\"><span class=\"s2\">his alleged involvement in coordinating with Fox News to produce a Fake News story smearing that same opponent<\/span><\/a>, compounded by the President&#8217;s ongoing public (not at all <b><i>alleged<\/i><\/b>\u2014&#8217;cause we all saw him doing the public parts, and confessing to the private parts in newspaper interviews) attempts to channel, limit, and outright detail the FBI investigation into his coordination with Russian agents to smear and defeat his opponent, these two legislative items are just about the <i>least<\/i> congress can do right now.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\">So <a href=\"http:\/\/www.davideriknelson.com\/sbsb\/index.php\/2017\/01\/calling-your-reps-a-guide-for-the-timid-with-quick-start-and-power-user-options\/\"><span class=\"s2\">call your reps<\/span><\/a> and ask them to do them\u2014or, at the very least, call them and tell them what you think about what&#8217;s going on.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Today, during your lunch break or on your commute or whatever. \u00a0It literally takes under five minutes; you can just call, say you&#8217;re a constituent, and ask: <\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\">&#8220;Is Rep.
