I tweeted about this a bit earlier this week, when Google alerted me to the existence of this cryptic (to me) web page<\/a>, which appears to be a ballot for a “Japanese Nebula Award” with one of my stories in the running for “Best Translated Short Story.”<\/p>\n

Basically the only page I can grok in this entire magazine<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

As it turns out, this is an actual thing, and sort of a big deal.\u00a0 (It’s\u00a0called the “Seiun Award<\/a>” in English\u2014and evidently has nothing to do with the SFWA Nebula\u00a0Award<\/a>; the Seiun Award is named for Japan’s first SF magazine.)<\/p>\n

A quick\u00a0glance at that Wikipedia entry\u00a0shows that, if my story should win, I will be the least famous\u00a0cat to ever get one of these awards\u2014and by a very significant margin.\u00a0 Which is to say, I’m not going to win.\u00a0 Still, it’s fun to be nominated.\u00a0 (Also, how the hell is it that I don’t have a Wikipedia page? This is at least the third page that mentions me and deadlinks my name.\u00a0 The ISFDB<\/a>, on the other hand, is hitting this out of the park.\u00a0 Well done!)<\/p>\n

Anyway, if you’re wondering what all the shouting is about, you can\u00a0read the story\u2014my first Time Portal tale, “The New Guys Always Work Overtime<\/a>,” winner of a 2013 Asimov’s Award(!!!)\u2014for just 99 cents.<\/p>\n
